Project overview
Set beside the tranquil waters of Wimborne Minster, this bespoke dual-level deck has breathed new life into what was once an uneven, rocky corner of the garden.
Crafted using premium Millboard composite decking in Smoked Oak, the structure now provides a smooth, modern surface that invites everyday enjoyment of those enviable riverside views.
By introducing two practical levels, the design makes the space far more versatile - whether the family are entertaining guests, enjoying a quiet morning coffee outdoors, or simply watching the gentle flow of the river go by.
The end result is a space that blends natural beauty with smart construction, giving purpose and elegance to a previously underused piece of the landscape.
Key Project Highlights:

A Design Tailored to a Challenging Landscape
With the existing ground uneven and covered in old rock and rubble, this project required careful planning to maximise every inch. The new split-level configuration creates distinct zones for seating, dining, and stepping down toward the water’s edge.
Millboard’s Smoked Oak finish brings a refined look, balancing contemporary edges with warm, wood-like character - a perfect match for the peaceful riverside setting. Subtle detailing keeps the focus where it belongs: the sparkling views ahead.
Engineered for Long-Term Outdoor Performance
The deck’s foundation is built using UC4 pressure-treated timber - the highest-grade weather-resistant wood available in the UK. This ensures the sub-frame remains strong and stable despite the proximity to the river and year-round exposure to the elements.
Paired with Millboard’s rot-proof, slip-resistant surface, this combination delivers the kind of durability that allows homeowners to relax, not repaint. Barefoot comfort and long-lasting structure - the ideal duo.

Bespoke Cedar Craftsmanship
A standout architectural feature of this project is the Western Red Cedar balustrade, paired with tensioned stainless-steel cables for a modern, visually light finish. It adds safety without obstructing those all-important river views.
To complete the look, cedar shadow-gap screening introduces warmth and privacy, while its clean lines provide a sleek backdrop that elevates the overall aesthetic.
This thoughtful combination of materials turns the deck into a true outdoor retreat - nature-connected, beautifully functional, and ready for many years of laid-back riverside living.
