Project Overview
We recently completed a striking raised decking installation on the cliffside at West Bay, Bridport, using Millboard’s Weathered Oak boards in the Driftwood finish.
This elevated deck provides breathtaking sea views and extends from a coastal lodge, offering the perfect setting to enjoy sunsets over the water. Framed by a 17.5mm frameless glass balustrade, the deck blends rustic beauty with modern sophistication, delivering both durability and design impact in a challenging coastal environment.

Coastal Charm Meets Structural Excellence
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Dorset coastline, this raised deck brings out the best of its seaside location. The Weathered Oak Driftwood boards mirror the natural textures of driftwood found along the shore, blending beautifully with the exterior of the lodge.
The use of 150x150mm UC4 SR posts on the raised platform adds significant structural strength, making this installation not just beautiful - but built to last. Whether it's early morning coffee or golden-hour gatherings, this deck is ready to perform in all seasons.
Frameless Glass Balustrade for Uninterrupted Views
A major design feature of this project is the 17.5mm frameless glass balustrade, offering safety without compromising the view. Unlike traditional railings, this sleek balustrade allows for a fully immersive visual experience, where the sea, sky, and horizon remain completely uninterrupted.
Not only does this create a modern aesthetic, but it also maximises light and openness, giving the entire outdoor space an expansive, luxurious feel.
Crafted for Life on the Coast
Coastal environments are notoriously tough on outdoor structures. That’s why we selected pressure-treated UC4 timber for the subframe, designed to withstand the moisture, salt, and shifting weather typical of seaside settings.
Combined with Millboard’s ultra-durable composite decking - renowned for its resistance to warping, rot, and fading - this deck is engineered to endure the elements while staying beautiful for years to come. It’s low maintenance, splinter-free, and perfect for barefoot living by the sea.
