Hexagon Arctic Cabin Decking in Millboad Weathered Oak Driftwood – Furzehill, Dorset

Project Overview

In this unique project, our client wanted to enhance their garden’s centrepiece—a small BBQ Arctic cabin—with a custom deck that would seamlessly wrap around the structure while adding a touch of elegance and durability. To achieve this, we designed and built a stunning hexagon-shaped deck using Millboard Weathered Oak composite decking in Driftwood colourway, accented with a Brushed Basalt picture frame. The result is a two-tone deck that perfectly complements the rustic charm of the cabin while blending harmoniously with the natural surroundings.

Materials and Construction

To ensure the longevity and stability of the deck, we constructed it on a C24, UC4 pressure-treated timber subframe. This subframe is not only robust but is also treated to resist decay and withstand the outdoor elements, making it ideal for a deck that will endure year-round weather conditions. Given that UC4 timber is rated for in-ground contact and lasts over 4 years, using it above ground significantly increases its lifespan.

For the subframe posts, we opted for Plas Pro 100x100 recycled plastic posts. This eco-friendly choice eliminates the risk of timber rot, as these posts prevent any wood from coming into contact with the ground, further ensuring the deck's durability. The use of recycled materials also aligns with our commitment to sustainable building practices.

We also use decktape to top the timber subframe, this adds an additional layer between water and the timber, and also creates a beautiful black under-lay to visually enhance the grey Millboard decking that tops the frame.

Why Millboard Was the Perfect Choice for This Project

Millboard decking was the ideal choice for this project due to its unmatched combination of aesthetics, durability, and low maintenance. The Enhanced Grain collection in Weathered Oak offers the authentic look and feel of natural wood while providing superior resistance to the elements.

Unlike traditional timber decking, Millboard is highly resistant to rot, warping, and fading, making it perfect for outdoor spaces that need to endure the varying British weather. The choice of Millboard also ensured that the deck would remain beautiful and functional for years to come, with minimal upkeep required.

Additionally, the Brushed Basalt picture frame added a sleek, modern touch, enhancing the overall design and perfectly complementing the garden's natural beauty. This makes Millboard not just a practical choice, but also a stylish one, delivering both performance and visual appeal.
