Millboard Decking with Plas-Pro Frame – Furzehill, Dorset

Project Overview:

In this stunning outdoor transformation for David Ripley in Furzehill, Dorset, we designed and installed a durable, long-lasting deck using Millboard Weathered Oak decking in Driftwood with a Brushed Basalt picture frame.

This project was unique due to its below-ground-level placement and the addition of a Weinor veranda, which required a decking frame that could stand the test of time.

Why A Plas-Pro Subframe Was the Right Choice

The use of a Plas-Pro sub-frame to support the decking was essential for this project’s long-term success.

Because the deck sits below ground level, a traditional timber frame would be prone to water damage and rot, due to water not being able to drain away from the framing naturally.

The Plas-Pro joists and posts are made of 100% recycled plastic to ensure they are fully immune to rot and decay, making them the ideal choice for an area exposed to moisture. This decision guarantees the longevity of the deck, providing peace of mind that the foundation will remain structurally sound for many years, ensuring that it will last as long as the client’s veranda investment.

This material is also eco-friendly, contributing to sustainability efforts by reusing plastic waste.

Millboard Weathered Oak Decking (Driftwood):

For the main decking, we chose Millboard Weathered Oak in Driftwood for its authentic aged timber look combined with the durability of composite decking. The Driftwood finish mimics natural weathered wood, offering a rustic yet elegant aesthetic.

Made from a blend of polyurethane and mineral stone, Millboard is highly resistant to rot, insects, and weather, making it more durable than traditional wood. It is low-maintenance by nature, requiring no staining or sealing, making it ideal for our client who wanted beauty, convenience and longevity.

This choice provided the client with a long-lasting, attractive deck that will retain its appeal for years.

Design Considerations

The key challenge in this project was ensuring the durability of the deck and its ability to withstand constant exposure to moisture due to its below-ground-level positioning. By opting for a Plas-Pro frame, we provided a robust solution that will maintain its integrity even in wet conditions, all while supporting the Millboard decking above.

Additionally, the Driftwood decking with its natural weathered appearance was a perfect aesthetic match for the surrounding garden. The subtle grey tones of the Driftwood boards combined with the Brushed Basalt picture frame offer a sophisticated and timeless look, blending beautifully with both the veranda and the landscape.
